Dec 6th PD - For Presentations Go To “adamscott.ca” and cursor to the bottom of the page.

 

 

Find a computer in the library room 230. Turn right out of the library and following the signs. Vicky Waterfield will help in room 230.

 

* Login teacher   (no password)

* look for TeacherPD Folder on the desk top for the programs

 

Activity ONE – Post A Message using the homework system

 

Steps

 

  1. Find a computer and run either Netscape or Internet Explorer
  2. Type the following address and hit enter: www2.kpr.edu.on.ca/homework
  3. Enter you login and password and click submit. Click on “continue” if the computer asks you

4.      Type in any comment you want.

5.      Click on Send in Comments

6.      Click on “Click Here” to see the comments

 

NOTE: If you change your comment you will need to hit the refresh button to see the revision.

 

Activity TWO – Creating a text document and FTPing it to a web site

 

  1. Find a computer and run “File Editor” or “NOTE PAD”
  2. Type in the following Text (You do not have to do the assignment. just type the text)

 

Assignment – Find Population

 

* Use the 2002 Census from Statistics Canada at

http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb

 

1) Find the population for every province in the 2002 census and

rank each provinces from the highest to lowest population.

            2) Calculate the percentage of Canadians who live in Ontario

 

  1. Save the file in the as your login name (login used to post homework) to drive H
  2. Run WS- FTP Click on Connect. Click on New and put in the following settings.
  3. Click on OK
  4. Enter the password (contact  R. Nevin at Adam Scott for password)

 

* You should now see server

  1. Click on your file to hi-light it then Click on right arrow to send a copy of the file to the server

  1. Go to the browser and enter the web address (URL) with your file name at the end

 

 

 

 

Activity THREE – Creating a MSWORD document, converting it to HTML (web page) and FTPing it to a web site

 

1.      Run MS Word

2.      Enter the following text and underline bold and change fonts. Notice that when you hint <ENTER> after the stats can web address it automatically turns into a link.
