Literacy Committee News

After school remediation sessions will start up again Tuesday and Thursday of the first week of Semester 2 (Tuesday, February 5 and Thursday, February 7) with Mrs. Anderson in Room 150. Students have already been notified as to their schedule. The support of parents and guardians around attendance in the programme is crucial for student success. Please encourage your son/daughter to make the most of this opportunity.

The practise for the grade 10 Literacy Test (OSSLT) and the grade 9 Practice Literacy Test will take place during period 1 on Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Both groups will be writing one booklet under similar conditions to the real testing day. Accommodations will be limited to extra time only at this point. Additional accommodations will be available on the actual testing date. Please encourage your son/daughter to be on time and present on February 27. Snow date will be Thursday, February 28, 2008.

Instructions and details of the grade 10 OSSLT and the grade 9 Practice Literacy Test will be given at an assembly during period 3 on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Please note that this day is the day students return to school after Easter holidays. The grade 10 OSSLT and the grade 9 Practice Literacy Test (booklet 2 for data collection to the Board office) will be administered on Thursday, March 27, 2008. Please make sure that your son/daughter arrives at school in good time and well rested on the morning of March 27 as the testing will begin at 9 am sharp.

We have information which is applicable to the testing:

A Fact Sheet for the grade 9 testing outlines the purpose, the tasks and preparation for the test.

There is a brochure summarizing guidelines for success on the testing.

A workbook with tasks set up as in the test is available at a cost of $5.00
