Adam Scott C.V.I./I.S. has a focus on student achievement with clearly stated expectations and equitable assessment guidelines. This mandate will be met within a purposeful learning atmosphere that is free from the threat of physical or emotional harm, delivered within a climate which is supportive of curriculum and instruction, and addresses the learning needs of both staff and students.
MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION
It is always hard to believe how fast June arrives. Now we’re heading towards the end of the school year and finishing off our planning for next year. To start, next September will see some changes in the administration at ASCVI/IS.
Catherine Foy will be leaving us to be Principal for the Center of Independent Studies, starting in Sept. Craig Allan will be replacing her as Principal of Adam Scott. Craig is a former VP of Adam Scott and an experienced educator who will bring a lot to our programs. I will be transferring to TASSS in the fall. Karl Wunderlich will still be at Adam Scott in the fall and a second VP has yet to be appointed. The Intermediate staff will remain the same for next year.
Karen Locklin and the Intermediate Band did a great job in hosting the Niagara Fall Swing Band workshop earlier in the month. Students from Chemong Public School also attended the workshop and the students had a wonderful day of musical activities.
The School Council held another successful Plant Sale this year and you can read more about it later on. The last School Council meeting for this year will be Monday June 13th at 6:45 pm and all are welcome. They will be starting to plan for next year.
The first annual Adam Scott Foundation Golf Tournament will be July 29th, see inside for details.
I would like to thank Sharron Hatton and Heidi Cole for all their hard work with the Plant Fundraiser which was a great success. Thank you to all for your plant orders. Also, much appreciation goes to Sharron Hatton and Carol Andrews with the Bar-b-q welcoming next year’s grade 7 students. Organizing the volunteers for this year’s Graduation is Dana Hanna. We are very thankful that she is taking on such an important job. Please, if you can help in any way, give her a call.
A GRADUATION UP-DATE
To All Gr. 7 Parents:
Every year all grade 7 students are asked to contribute sandwiches and baked goods to the Gr. 8 graduation. This food helps to feed the approximately 600 people that attend the event -everyone`s contribution is valuable! Please send either baked goods or sandwiches to school on the morning of MONDAY, June 27th. Parent volunteers (yes, we need those too!) will then sort them into mixed trays. Mark this on your calendar now! Thanks.
The school needs volunteers to:
1. Put the food on trays during the day of Monday, June 27th.
2. Serve at the reception from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27th.
Overseeing volunteers this year is Dana Hanna, 749-0985. Please call either Mrs. Hanna or the school at 743-7373 if you can help out in any way.
To All Grade 8 Parents
This year’s Grade 8 Graduation will be held on Monday, June 27th and already the students are discussing what they are going to wear for their graduation ceremony and dance. The enthusiasm for the elementary leaving ceremony is understandable but, some students are concerned about the quality of their attire and whether or not they will "fit in" with the social expectations for the evening. Please take some time to talk to your child(ren) about the realities of dressing appropriately for a school event and the judicious spending of money on outfits. Reviewing with all students that people come from a variety of different social situations and should not be judged on their physical appearance or attire may help to encourage inclusion and group support for each and every person who will take pride in graduating from the elementary panel. This is a special day for all our children.
GRADUATION 2005

YEARBOOKS
The Grad Photos are in! And they’ll be in our new yearbooks! But we only have 30 copies left to sell. If you want one, the cost is $25.00 and you need to see Mme. Girard to reserve your copy. There are lots of candid photos in this year. Get your copy soon.
SPRING CLEANING?
Think something might be useful for intermediate art projects such as magazines (gardening, home decor, art or photography only please) wool, scrap fabric or small yogurt containers? Consider donating some of it to Ms. Scott and her art classes.
Ms. Scott is always on the hunt for novels. If you have any books at home that you no longer wish for that would be suitable for readers in Gr. 5 and up, consider making a valuable book donation. Help support the love of reading!
AAACS AWARDS
Monday, June 20, a.m. Grade 7 & 8 AAACS Awards Assembly. Parents Welcome.
LADY LION BASKETBALL TEAM
The Lady Lion basketball team ended the year with a tournament at Thomas A. Stewart and earned a spot in the finals. The games ended in a close, disappointing loss by only two points to Westmount. Way to go girls! The improvement of each player and the team as a whole was quite an accomplishment. They will not forget the early morning practices that focused on music, bathing suits, hair and makeup (a change room salon) and oh yes - basketball! They were certainly the best ‘cheerers’ and enthusiastic group among all of the schools. Mrs. Knox would like to thank all of those girls who worked so hard and gave their best all season.
PLANT FUNDRAISER
I would like to thank everyone who took part in our successful Plant Fundraiser. We were raising funds for upgrading of maps for Geography and History, equipment for Phys. Ed., and Grade 8 Graduation. Our top fundraiser was Kylie McMaster from Mrs. Locklin’s Grade 7 class. Sharron Hatton

CLASS PLACEMENTS FOR NEXT YEAR
Academic balance within each class is of primary importance when making up the class lists; individual student needs and abilities are taken into account for all students. Although we recognize the importance of social relationships for this age group, we do not place students in classes based on their friendships with other students.
Staff assignments are subject to change every year. Assignments and staffing units are not determined until mid-June and there is always the possibility that the teacher you have requested for your child will not be teaching at this school in September. Your understanding in this area is greatly appreciated.
