LION TALES
ADAM SCOTT C.V.I.
An Information Newsletter to Parents
Karl Wunderlich, Vice-Principal Catherine Foy, Principal Wilf Gray, Vice-Principal
The sun is shining, the days are getting longer and Spring is in the air. With the better weather, numerous activities are in full swing here at Adam Scott: the boys' rugby teams are practising for their upcoming season, the girls' rugby team is preparing for OFSAA, the rowing team has begun early morning training, the girls' field hockey team is up and running, the Track and Field team has begun outdoor training and the school band continues to play on!
Just recently, the school ran a successful 30-Hour Famine to raise funds for starving children. Over eighty students participated. Thanks to all staff who helped supervise, especially those who volunteered in the wee hours of the morning! A special thank you goes to Mr. Pierre Robert for organizing and supervising the entire event.
Our school also hosted a successful Fashion Show.
The show went for two nights with students modelling fashions from local businesses
as well as designs produced in our own Fashion Industry class. A thank you to
all who participated, particularly Mrs. Tracy Minnema for organizing the show.
Congratulations to Mrs. Kim McBride (Mathematics
and Phys. Ed. teacher) and family on the birth of their baby girl, Ella Faith.
Both mother and daughter are doing fine.
The Adam Scott school community would like to welcome
Mrs. Lyn Davidson who will be teaching at our school during Kim's absence. In
addition to being a conscientious teacher, Lyn is an Adam Scott parent.
Lastly, with the good weather, we are starting to see more skateboards at school. Students are reminded that skateboards are not allowed at school for safety reasons and should be left at home.

Science Fair Winners Bound
for Newfoundland!!
On Tuesday, April 6, students from Adam Scott competed at the Peterborough Regional Science Fair held at Trent University. Almost three hundred projects were entered in the fair this year, including a large increase in the number of senior projects. Despite this tough competition, our students again showed Adam Scott proud!
Congratulations to Sarah Gastle, who won first
prize in the Senior Biological Sciences Division and first overall in the fair
with her project on selective hearing entitled, "Left is Right". With their
project, "Magneponics: Electromagnet-aided plant growth", Patrick Bunting and
Braden Root-McCaig captured second place in the Senior Biological Sciences Division
and second overall in the fair. Andrew Olson also competed in the Intermediate
Engineering Division with his Robotics project and a number of Intermediate
students also attended the fair with Mme Girard supervising their entries.
With these regional fair wins, Sarah, Patrick and Braden qualified to go on to the Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held this May 15-23 in St. John's, Newfoundland. There, they will meet over 500 of the best science fair projects from across Canada, in an exciting week of competition and exploration.
Many thanks to Mr. McAuley, Mr. Wright, Mr. Bemrose and Mr. Keay for performing such an awesome Science Show during the afternoon of the fair. They kept the audience enthralled as they awaited the results of the judging. Thanks also to the senior science students who provided excellent judging at the fair.
Great appreciation is extended to Ms. Foy, Mr. Minnema, Mr. Davies, Mrs. McIlmoyle, Mr. MacMillan-Jones, Ms. Ginn, the custodial staff, James Pammett and Iain Jeffrey for their continuous support of the science fair winners.
Good Luck, Sarah, Pat and Braden! Watch for their results from Newfoundland in May!
