PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
The second semester started on the first Monday of February and things are busy at Adam Scott. The boys’ rugby teams are preparing for their upcoming tour of Scotland during the March Break, the boys’ and girls’ hockey teams are nearing the completion of their respective seasons, the rowing team is continuing with their early morning training, the cross-country ski team is in competition, our unicycle club continues to meet regularly, our school ski and snowboard club goes to Mount Kirby every Wednesday night, plans are underway for our annual Fashion Show and the school bands continue to play on!
With the change in Semester, we have some new faces on staff. Fred Pelletier, a retired secondary teacher from Cobourg has joined us on a Long Term Occasional (LTO) position teaching French and Math. Lawrence Wicks, has also joined us on an LTO position where he is teaching Math. I’d like to welcome both Fred and Lawrence to the Adam Scott School Community.
I’d also like to welcome back Sharon Lasenby, Olivia James and Karen Stewart from their first semester leaves. I trust they had a good break from Adam Scott and have returned to the classroom with renewed energy and vigor. Cindy Sargeant has also returned to Adam Scott from a maternity leave and we are all pleased to have her rejoin our English Department.
The compassion and care for others displayed by the students of Adam Scott continues to impress me. Over $1,000.00 was raised by our student body for the victims of the Asian Tsunami Disaster. Currently, the student body is collecting items for an Adam Scott family suffering after the loss of their home and belongings in a house fire. Any household items, clothes (boy’s size 14-16, girls’ sizes 10 & 12, woman’s size 8 or 9) or cash donations would be greatly appreciated. If you can help, please let our Guidance Office know.
Lastly, with the recent mild weather, we are still seeing some skateboards at school. Students are reminded that skateboards are not allowed at school for safety reasons and should be left at home.
Parents/guardians should be reminded that in case of inclement weather, bus routes may be delayed or cancelled. These changes are broadcast on the local radio stations. Parents should be aware of their children’s bus route number and the bus company as these delays and cancellations are announced by bus company and route number on the radio.
A reminder to parents and guardians to check our website www.adamscott.ca to keep up with the multitude of activities and events at the school. As always, we appreciate your support and input. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at Catherine_Foy@kprdsb.ca or at 743-7373 Ext. 143.

GENEROSITY IS ALIVE AND WELL WITH
ADAM SCOTT STUDENTS
Semester One illustrated the commitment and generosity of our staff and student body. When there was a need in our community and across the world, we responded.
Our Civics class (CHV205-03) read about the plight of Corporal Frederick Topham’s Victoria Cross. The family wanted to sell the heirloom and our veterans wanted to donate it to the War Museum and keep it in Canada. Our students ran a wonderful campaign in the school and donated $250.00 to the cause. The medal has been bought and will stay in Ottawa.
When Adam Scott returned after Christmas Break, the school quickly raised $1,000.00 and sent it to the Red Cross to help with the Tsunami Relief Fund. We plan on continuing with some form of rebuilding aid during the second semester.
Furthermore, we have not forgotten our three foster children. During second semester, “Penny Day” will be held on Fridays. Adam Scott will be encouraged to donate their loose change to help keep our foster children, their families, plus communities self-sufficient. This drive will start soon.
Students at Adam Scott are definitely practicing “Character Development” traits and helping the community at large. When people are in need, we are willing to lend a helping hand.

Adam Scott’s Annual Fashion Show
A reminder to mark your calendars for Adam Scott’s Annual Fashion Show. It will be held in the auditorium on April 6th & 7th at 7:00 p.m. The theme for this year is “I Am Canadian” and proceeds are in support of the recent tsunami disaster in Asia through UNICEF. You can purchase tickets at the door for $5.00 or bring a non-perishable food item and you pay only $4.00. The organizers this year are Caitlyn Costello, Jessica Koning, Regeena Northey and Sarah Shedden, who have been hard at work planning all the details of the show. As a change this year, we are working with ‘Max Agency’ out of Toronto. They are a talent agency who are scouting for the next famous face, whether it be model or actor and are adding an exciting new dynamic to the show. So come on out to support the students, the UNICEF fund and to find out what it is like to be “Canadian!”

Please help the Adam Scott Breakfast Program .....
Once again this year, the Adam Scott Breakfast Program operates daily from 8:30 until 8:45 a.m. in Rm. 109 to provide breakfast for our students.
We would like to thank several businesses for their support of our Breakfast Program. Without the generous support of these companies, our Breakfast Program would not be able to continue:
Pye’s Buns and Deli
Vitality Foodservice
Tim Horton’s
Kawartha Food Share
Food for Kids
I would also like to thank the Adam Scott Student Council for their financial support and the many staff volunteers that help with the Breakfast Program. However, we need your help. Adam Scott is expected to contribute financially to the operation of this Program. I am asking the parents of Adam Scott to help our Breakfast Program by making a financial donation of any amount. Every little bit helps!
