PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
The mid semester point is a good time to look back at what has been accomplished and to look forward to all that has yet to be done.
Congratulations to our many successful teams, particularly Girls’ Rugby, Junior and Senior Football and Cross Country Running and their outstanding coaches for great seasons. We have also enjoyed our Commencement celebrations and Junior Awards Assembly. I would like to thank Ms. Caroline Tennent for her key role in both of these important events, Ms. Mary Ann Gauthier for providing us with music, as well as the many other staff members who assisted in making these events truly special. Ms. Darlene Little, Head Secretary, is my right hand and keeps us, and me in particular, organized and on top of things. She is the epitome of the professional secretary and we are so fortunate to have her here at Scott. Thank you, Darlene for all of your efforts!!
We will be hosting a Flu clinic on November 25th and 26th. Students can obtain a flu shot but must bring in a signed permission form. Please join us on one of those days if you would like a flu shot.
The interim report card provides valuable information regarding student achievement. It may also pose a few questions. Please do not hesitate to contact our teaching staff, who will be happy to address your concerns.
A reminder to parents and guardians to check our website www.adamscott.ca to keep up with the multitude of activities and events happening here at the school.
Thank you for your continued support,
Catherine

“60th Anniversary of D-Day – The Liberation”
Juno Beach – June 6, 1944
Sincere thanks to the many students and staff members who assisted with the Remembrance Day assembly held recently on Thursday, November 11th, during which time we honoured our Canadian Service men and women. The theme was liberation as highlighted in this year’s 60th Anniversary of D-Day, the common name for the Allied invasion of northern Europe that began on June 6, 1944, code-named Operation Overlord. The purpose of the action was to establish a beachhead on the Normandy coast and, ultimately, to liberate the continent of Europe from Nazi occupation.
FALL ATHLETICS AT ADAM SCOTT
This fall was a very successful fall for the Lady Lions Athletic program.
The Field Hockey teams under the guidance of Mr. Rhodes and Mr. Robert had a very good season entering teams in the Senior and developmental leagues. The Seniors ended in 4th place at the Kawartha Tournament and the developmental team won the Kawartha Championships for the 3rd consecutive year.
The Rugby teams under the guidance of Mr. Greer and Mr. Keay had successful seasons in the North Central Girls’ Rugby league. The Junior Lions played some rough and tough rugby and finished in the top 4 in a very competitive north central league and competed in the Kawartha Championships held in Cobourg. The Senior Lions enjoyed another successful season finishing first in the north central league, hosted the Kawartha Championships, won the Kawartha Championships and then travelled to Trenton in some very cold, bitter weather conditions and won their second COSSA Championship in a row. The Senior Lions will now travel to the OFSAA Championships hosted in Toronto in the spring.
The Cross Country team under the guidance of Mr. Bryan, Mr. McAuley and Mr. Borek enjoyed a successful season of running. They competed in several invitational meets before advancing to the Kawartha Championships where several individual runners advanced to COSSA as well as the Midget and Junior Girls’ teams winning at Kawartha. At COSSA, the Midget girls’ team was second and the Junior girls’ team won gold. Both of these teams advanced to the OFSAA Championships in Guelph and competed in some tough fields – including 250 runners per division.
The Basketball teams under the guidance of Ms. de Jeu and Mrs. McBride enjoyed successful seasons competing in the north central league. The Juniors hosted two tournaments here at Adam Scott and finished their season at the City semi-finals. The Seniors played in the TASSS invitational tournament and finished their season at the City semi-finals also.
Thanks to all athletes, coaches and their families for their commitment, dedication and hard work this fall season.
Girls’ Ice Hockey, Curling, Volleyball, Cross Country Skiing and Rowing are underway for the Winter Season.
Submitted by Ms. de Jeu, Head of Girls’ Phys. Ed.
TERRY FOX RUN - 2004
This year the students of Adam Scott raised $14,022.00 for cancer research. Many students made a personal dedication of the run by signing the name of a cancer patient on a banner which was carried to Nicholl’s Oval. This year we added a Student Band Concert to our fund raising which was a great success. Thank you to Kyle Nurse, Nate Axcell and Craig Shaw for organizing that event. Many thanks for a job well done goes to our General Committee: Jessica Mathewson, Sarah McNamara, Shaun Retallick, Caitlyn Costello, Jason Millen, Georgia Hillier and Erica Roppolo. WE CAN make a difference!!
Drama -- a Forum to Drug Awareness
–with Students Impacting Students!
Instigated by Mrs. Briscoe, the Grade 12 Drama students have developed and are presently rehearsing their scripts for Drug Awareness Week. With the assistance of Artistic Director, Ray Henderson and colleague, Phil Oakley from Arbor Theatre and with the guidance of Marilyn Dyck and Monique Beneteau from the Peterborough County-City Health Unit, the students will showcase their fact-based scenarios to Intermediate classes from community schools during the week of November 22-26, after a video taping of the show on November 19th for COGECO’s Straight Up. The presentations do more than just say “NO” to drugs, for they also explore the grave consequences of making poor choices, all of which to deter young people from experimenting with drugs. An open and candid Question and Answer session with Grades 7 & 8 audiences will follow the presentations. An evening performance is tentatively scheduled for November 23rd at 7:00 p.m.

In essence, one email sent to the list will go to everyone on the list automatically. Please note that only school administrators can do this. This is known as an "announcement" type of email list.
The first email list called ASCVI-NEWSLETTER-L is for grades 9 to 12, bulletins, current events, the school newsletter and anything else that is of general interest to the school.
The second email list called ASCVIIS-NEWS-L is for the Intermediate grades 7 and 8, bulletins, current events, the school newsletter and anything else that is of general interest to the school.
The third email list is called ASCVI-NEWSEXTR-L is for the entire school to send out announcements about the extracurricular events that are happening at the school (sports schedules, music productions, fund raisers)
