Vikings Take on Europe!

On Saturday, March 8th, C.D.C.I. West headed out on a trip to Greece and Italy with 65 students and 8 chaperones in tow. This was the school’s second trip to Europe in the past three years, both proving to be a hit among teachers and students.

The trip started off with an overnight flight to Rome, with breakfast and dinner served en route. After landing, the group met their local tour guides and began the adventure of a lifetime. The first thing on the agenda was a walking tour of Rome, where they got to see many spectacular sights including the famous Spanish Steps. Throughout the next nine days, the students and chaperones were swept off their feet by the amazing architecture and landscapes that Greece and Italy hold. 'It was incredible to be there, just to see these ancient structures still standing there.' says Lynda Darling, the trip’s coordinator. The trip featured visiting two wonders of the world, The Colossem in Ancient Rome and The Acropolis in Athens, which proved to be favorites among the West travelers. A one day cruise was also considered a highlight, 'Overall, the trip was an amazing experience,' says Kayla Dymtruck, a grade twelve student, ' I would say that the cruise on the last day was a favorite of mine. We were able to experience three different Saronic Gulf islands while traveling by means of the Aegan Sea.' The cruise was a great end to the trip, with the students departing from Athens the next day. They returned home to many waiting and anxious parents. 'I will never forget those sights, and I know they will be memorable to the students as well, ' says Darling.

The West is in the works of planning their next trip, this time to Costa Rica over March Break 2009.

Vermont Trip

On Wednesday, February 27th, C.D.C.I. West took it’s third annual ski trip to Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont. 83 people attended; including students, teachers and parents from the school. The three day trip was a major success, thanks to great behavior from the students. Cheryl Windolf, the trips coordinator, is hoping for another outstanding trip next year.
