On Friday, June 13th,
C.D.C.I. West hosted it’s first ever ‘Girls for Africa’ fundraiser –a
girls night for female students. As an all-night event, it was a great
success raising just shy of 2000 dollars. All the money raised went
towards the West’s efforts in sending children to school within Kilema,
Africa. With this fundraiser, the West will now be able to give six more
children the opportunity of gaining an education.
The night consisted of
spa treatments for the girls, all generously donated by willing
volunteers. A great thanks goes to Shelley Bruce, Body Haven, The Beauty
Clinic, Angela Scholt, Joanie Courcelles, Katrina Read, and Michelle
Gurdebeck. Fifty girls participated, all entertaining themselves by
different means. From playing manhunt to making bracelets to send along
with the money raised, they were all very enthusiastic throughout the
entire night.
“It’s really great to
know that we not only provided a great night for all the girls, but we
are also giving kids an education that they wouldn’t be able to get
otherwise,” says Kelsey Thomas, one of the events organizers, along with
Jessica Ashley.
With this year being such
a success, the West hopes to make ‘Girls for Africa’ a yearly event.
