Each year in the fall every grade 10
student is invited to participate in a four day wilderness adventure. Experienced
West staff members organize and run activities which allow the students to get
to know each other as well as develop team work skills, problem solving skills,
cooperative skills and leadership skills. Students learn how to work together
to achieve success. They learn that different people can offer different skills
to a team and they learn to respect each other for who they are. Many students
comment that this experience allows them to get to know their fellow students
better and it draws them closer together. This outdoor adventure is often the
highlight of a student's high school career. This is an educational experience
that could not be offered within the regular classroom.
