Polar Ice Cap Biome:

Antarctic Peninsula,

Antarctica

This is a view of the mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula, as viewed in January, the Antarctic summer.  During this season the pack ice breaks up, but ice and snow still abound on the land.

This project is the result of the hard work that 1 of our students put into the opportunity of a lifetime.  L.V.  (our student) was selected to be part of the "Students on Ice" project, a program in which students and scientists from all over Canada travel together on a ship to visit, experience, learn and discuss the ecology of the Antarctic and environmental problems that are occurring there.

L.V.  used a digital camera to record visual images of her expedition.  Her examination of the wildlife and discussions with scientists and students concerning adaptations of the biota to this environment form the basis of this research project.  This is a qualitative study, based on observations, impressions and group investigation and discussion.
