Biome Project 2002 for Peter's Woods

Biome Project 2002

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the field study at Peter’s Woods in Centreton, Ontario, was to give our class a better understanding of a “forest system.” This was an excellent study in that we were able to learn about the Abiotic and Biotic data of a virgin forest, which is typical of the temperate deciduous biome in our area. To accomplish the field study, our class split up into groups of four, and each member of the group was responsible for collecting different data.  In our group, Matt was responsible for the Abiotic data, Karl was responsible for the Biotic data, Lauren was responsible for taking pictures, and Greg was responsible for the web-site design.  Each group then picked a 10m by 10m quadrate area of the forest to conduct their research in.  After the field study, each group compared their collected data to average out their findings.  The field study took place over one day, and we were able to enjoy the day out in the great outdoors.
