Joining the World Wide Biome Project!!

Woodland Spring Flowers

Enjoy Learning About the Outdoors!

The aim of this project is to facilitate studying and sharing of ecological data between students from various areas of the world. The single biggest danger to wildlife species on the planet is habitat loss. Greater understanding of the importance of ecosystems is the first step to rectifying the damage to wildlife populations.

This project will run from 1997 to 2010. Schools can sign up at any time. Please tell other people about the project; the greater the participation, the better the results for the Project.

We are suggesting a set of steps for your study. This protocol/methodology will generate certain data that can be entered onto a data form. Naturally, you may have to alter some of the steps to fit the type of habitat that you are studying (field versus forest), or to fit the abilities of the grade that you are teaching. Please do so as needed. However, your personal steps should still generate certain types of data that we can input. You can see the method by going to the Learn the Protocol page. You can see the types of final data required if you go to the Enter Data page.

When you have your data finished you can logon to the Enter Data page and send us your findings, as well as photographs, if you wish. Or you can simply e-mail your findings and photos (which most people are doing). We will then post your findings for others to see.

At any time you can check the Research page to see data that other schools have gathered. You can retrieve that data and use it for comparative purposes etc.

Finally, if you are interested in exchanging e-mail with other classes, to learn their views on issues, then check out the E-pals page.
