Local History

There are several main branches to local history research at the West. First, there are interviews of local people and veterans that have been completed by Grade 10 students. Topics range from the early 1900's to more modern day.

Second, many local history documents have been typed and entered onto the web for the benefit of local researchers and genealogists. These documents include a variety of interesting letters and census/assessment records.

Third, Grade 12 students have researched and presented their findings both on our web site and on a local history wiki in conjunction with the Cobourg and District Archives.

Fourth, our reenactments are also now including the Northumberland Militia who made their first appearance at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival. Letters from the War of 1812 written by and to the local militia are also included.

If you have any local history documents, please contact Chris Robins, History Department CDCI West . We would love to include more material.

Thanks!
