Principal's Message

The West has a “Tradition of Excellence” and has been building futures for over 100 years. As I reflect upon the year, I cannot help but be amazed at the talent, commitment, academic excellence, and school spirit shown by the students of the West. It is an extreme pleasure and honour to be the Principal of a school that is able to celebrate so many accomplishments. The heart of the staff and the students was displayed in the many charitable campaigns. This all began with staff and students raising over $14,000.00 for Terry Fox. Soon thereafter, the West was the top school in raising money for the Northumberland United Way. The West continued to assist our communities by raising money and awareness for Habitant for Humanity, Christmas Teen Drive (Salivation Army), Halloween for Hunger (Local Food Bank) and Orphans in Africa to name just a few of the many causes. Developing strong character attributes is one of the most important objectives of an educator and West teachers can be proud that our students will make a difference in society in the years to come.

Once again, the West has dominated in sports winning numerous Kawartha and COSSA championships. Congratulations to all athletes for their commitment, dedication and perseverance in achieving their goals. Congratulations and thanks to all coaches for your time and expertise.

The West’s tradition of excellence in the arts was evident in the many drama performances, musical competitions, art displays, computer technology exhibits, assemblies and the many co-curricular activities. Congratulations to the many talented and artistic students of the West.

The West Collegiate offered many engaging activities within and outside the classroom. Many students and staff traveled to Costa Rica over the March Break. West Fest offered opportunities for students to ski and snowboard in Vermont while others skated on the cannel in Ottawa. The Civil War Re-enactment was a huge success and a great learning opportunity. The “Night of the Arts” showcased the artistic talents of many of our students. Our school website continues to be the envy of all schools in the province and the West was rated as the top school in our board and area by the Fraser Institute.

Congratulations to all students who are graduating, we wish you all the success in your future endeavors. Thank-you to all staff and students who worked hard and displayed the school spirit which makes to West such a great place. How fortunate I am to be the Principal of such an outstanding school.

GO VIKINGS GO!
