Gifted students are those who by
virtue of outstanding abilities are capable of high academic
performance in the classroom. Twenty five percent of the
students associated with the Special Education Department at
the West are identified as gifted and participate in our
gifted program. This program provides these students with
alternative educational experiences outside of the regular
classroom. Through student seminars, guest speakers, trips
and a variety of ongoing activities an attempt is made to
provide students with as wide a base of knowledge and
experience as possible. There is also an emphasis on
providing the opportunity to graduate students to complete a
resume and portfolio to facilitate post secondary
applications and scholarship opportunities. |
