What is Dynix?  (DYNIX)

Dynix is the trademark name of the integrated library system software maintained and distributed by Epixtech. The library catalogue or OPAC--online public access catalogue-- is one of the system modules.

How can I access Dynix-- the library catalogue?  (DYNIX)

All networked PCs on the wide-area network can access Dynix. All Windows95 desktops–academic or administrative–should have a Dynix shortcut on the desktop. Contact the Helpdesk if you do not. Click on the Dynix icon to initiate a Telnet session. At the Login prompt enter your three letter school code plus ‘lib" as your Login ID: E.g lrclib. At the password prompt enter the same word as your login word but capitalize the first letter. E.g. Password: Lrclib

>>Click here to initiate Telnet session now.
(Must have Telnet application installed and on KPR wide area network)

Why is Dynix so slow? (DYNIX)

I can’t print spine labels when I am in Windows. (DYNIX)

Many people are reporting problems printing from computers using a dual boot environment (ICLAS or SchoolView and Windows95). When adding a local printer on the Windows side, it may be necessary to Capture the Printer Port. It is also a good idea to have library administration and circulation stations set up as W95 only-- the Office Administration desktop. Put in a service request to TIS to have this changed.

Why are the spine labels printing incorrectly? (DYNIX)

When printing from QVTNet, ensure that Transparent Mode is checked U in the Printer Menu. If spacing is a problem, make sure to enter the command sp1   Entering sp will create spacing problems.

What is Qvtnet? (DYNIX)

Qvtnet is a communications software program run on Windows95 operating system. The Dynix icon on the standard KPR desktop is a shortcut to this program. When the icon is clicked on, the program launches and initiates a Telnet session. Access to the Dynix server in W95 should always be handled by this program.

Why can’t I print French diacritics? (DYNIX)

The printer needs to have the correct character set selected. In the Panasonic 1000 series, there are DIP switches underneath the carriage that can be adjusted. Move the carriage to one side and adjust switches according to manual. Call the Gloria Ashcroft at the LRC for proper set up. For later models, these adjustments are made using a utilities program. Go to the website and download software.  <http://www.panasonic.ca/support/software/printers.html>

How can I change the status of a lost book that is showing as overdue? (DYNIX)

In the Circulation module, go to Check in and either Return the item or set it to Lost. To get the barcode number, Search the item by title. The barcode number appears on the Copy Status screen. You will need to enter this number manually at the check in screen. To set an item to Lost, enter .L (list) at the Check Out screen. Then enter L for lost. Enter the line number of the lost item.

How can I remove lost, damaged, or recovered items to eliminate the Override prompt? (DYNIX)

In the Circulation module, go to Check out and scan in the student barcode (or search by last name). Enter the line number beside the problem item. At the next screen enter delete if there are no charges pending. Otherwise enter W to waive the charges and then D to delete.
