Efficient Internet Searches

There are efficient ways to use Internet search engines that will give you improved results.

The more specific your search is, the more likely you will find what you want. Use "global warming in the Arctic" instead of just global warming. Enclosing the terms in quotes will ensure that the terms appear together, not just somewhere on the page.

Use the + symbol to make sure the web pages contain all the terms you want, not just some of them. Example: +global +warming +Arctic will return web pages that contain all the words.

Use the - sign to eliminate certain words from your search. Example: +global +warming -Arctic will find pages about global warming, excluding those with the word Arctic in them.

You can combine the symbols to generate very effective searches.
